How to repair the iPad’s Home Button(0)
The home button of iPad is prone to unresponsive behavior as a result of normal wear and tear. If you are facing this kind of situation and have run out of the Apple warranty, do not despair since there are some methods that you can apply and get yourself out of this inconvenience.
The first method that you can use to get rid of the unresponsiveness of the home button is calibration. This method can be used only if the home button is unresponsive as a result of some software glitch. Using this method, open up any random stock app and hold down the sleep button of your phone until “Slide to power off” option appears. Once the option appears, release the sleep button and hold the home button instead. Wait for a few seconds after which the app would be closed. This is probably the simplest method to get rid of the home button unresponsiveness problem but it only works if the problem is of software nature and not too serious.
One of the reasons for the unresponsiveness of the home button can also be phone’s docking port, which gets misaligned as a result of normal wear and tear. The misalignment of the docking port also moves the home button from its actual position. The solution for this problem is simple but subtle. Plug a USB cable into your phone and gently push down on the 30-pin connector. After it moves behind the home button apply the pressure and click the home button.
Sometimes, the problem of the unresponsiveness of the home button can be resolved by simply cleaning your home button and phone. The solution that you would use for this purpose is 98-99 percent isopropyl alcohol, which is easily available from hardware stores. Dip a few drops of this solution on a tissue or a cotton cloth and clean the home button while avoiding the screen. Check your phone about 10-15 minutes after cleaning it.
If all the above methods fail, the problem might be a bit serious. Final solution that you can resort is to align the home button connectors, which have most probably been misaligned. As a last resort, you can use the on-screen home button on the phone. You can do this by turning on the “Assistive Touch” feature present in the “Settings” of the phone.
Facebook has released an updated version of its app for iPhone and iPad(0)
Good news for the users of the Facebook app for iPhone and iPad is that Facebook has released an updated version of its app which would be much more faster compared to the previous version. Although the general user interface of the updated app is pretty similar to the older app, the major difference is that the programming code of the new app has been replaced with the new code used for iOS.
There are various notable changes that can be observed in the new app. For example, the code for the camera and messenger apps of Facebook has been integrated in the main app, replacing the older tools. This has increased the facility in messaging and managing photos in the new app. The news feed has also been improved and the new feed would be more dynamic. This means that with every “like” or comments on a status update, it could be observed directly without any need of refreshing the page.
The most important aspect of the recent major re-structuring in Facebook is that every product team is now working on mobile platforms. According to Facebook executives, special attention is being paid to major platforms such as iOS and Android. Instant operation of the apps is necessary when it comes to mobile platforms and this is precisely what the new Facebook app does.
An important question that was raised regarding the departure of Facebook from the native code is that would it still remain an open Web platform. According to the head of mobile engineering at Facebook, Cory Ondrejka, it would remain so. He said that wrapping the native around the web technology was not viable for Facebook apps, since the performance of these apps in past was not up to the mark. He further said that Facebook would continue to take advantage of the web technology in future as well.
An important advantage of the web based development is that the entire development team can work with the same code on all products, hence considerably increasing the productivity. This would also eliminate the need of writing a new code in a different language for each platform. Talking about the comparative advantage of the latest development techniques, Mr. Ondrejka said that “We would love the Web to be as capable as native to simplify development. But it’s just not there today.”
Tips for your home button problem for iPad(0)
For many people, the home button of their iPad starts creating problem after being used for a long time. For example, being pressed again and again, it might become less efficient and you would need to press it more forcefully to fulfill the purpose. It can also happen that your thumb starts getting sorer due to incessant pressing of the button. An easy solution to all these problems is putting a virtual home button on the screen of your iPad, hence removing all the trouble of perpetual pressing of the physical button.
Malfunction of the home button of iPad after long usage is not a very uncommon problem and several users have discussed about it in past. Good thing is that if your button starts malfunctioning within the Apple warranty period, you can always have your phone replaced. If, however, you are not fortunate enough and the warranty period has already ran out, you can always apply the method of virtual button which would certainly remove your problem.
Good thing about this method is that it is extremely simply and people using it do not require any technical knowledge. With a few simple steps, you can undertake the entire process. To start the process, go to the “Settings” bar of your phone and from there, select the “General” menu. From there, go to “Accessibility” and from there, select “Assistive Touch”. This is the place where you would find an on/off slider, which you would need to turn on. After turning this option on, you would see a square icon on your screen which would have a number of options. On of these options would be the home button, which would be the virtual home button that you would have on your home screen.
Just like many other minor utilities found in a smartphone, this method also remains to be largely unknown. The method, while not entirely new, is certainly unknown on a wide scale, particularly for non-technical people. But those who have applied it to their devices have found it very helpful in saving their thumbs.
Price and technical specs for Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet version(0)
Samsung recently announced the 10.1 tablet version of its Samsung Galaxy Note. Important technical specs of the device include screen resolution of 1280 by 800 pixels, 5 megapixel back end camera, 9 hours of battery life and the facility of microSD card for memory expansion. The device comes with an S Pen that would be used for jotting down notes anywhere and anytime. However, compared to the iPad, third party applications for the tablet are quite limited. The 16 GB version of the tablet has been priced at $499 while the 32 GB version would be available for $549.
Compared to Galaxy Note 10.1, the price of the new iPad starts at $499 for the 16 GB version and goes up to $699 for 64 GB version. It has a better resolution of 2048 by 1536 pixels and has the same 5 megapixel rear end camera onboard. But iPad clearly has a much better access to third-party applications, other than Apple’s own wide range of apps from iTunes. The tablet also has support for 4G wireless broadband networks.
A while back, the second generation version of Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 was also launched. Price for this tablet happens to be $399 for 16 GB version which is quite reasonable. Important technical specs of the device include a resolution of 1280 by 800 pixels, 3 megapixel rear end camera and 11 hours of battery life. There is also a 7 inch version of the device available for $250. Although selection of third-party apps is not bad, it is still far from Apple’s iPad.
Finally there is Surface tablet from Microsoft which would be launched in a month or so. Details about the technical specs of the device have not been revealed as yet but initial reviews and expectations in the industry are quite high. Besides, this tablet would also be available in 128 GB version which does not exist with any other tablet. With the launch of Surface tablet from Microsoft, the competition would certainly be intensified. Microsoft has pretty much bridged the gap between a tablet and a laptop with the the introduction of its Surface tablet. Besides, the competition in the domain of 7 inch tablets has also considerably increased, given the launch of Google Nexus 7 and the expected launch of the second generation Kindle Fire.
iPhone and iPad prototypes were revealed in the court documents(0)
While the legal battle between Apple and Samsung seems to be ongoing without any apparent end, it has revealed some pretty interesting things about both companies. Talking specifically about Apple, the court documents revealed a variety of concepts of iPhone and iPad that were considered but were eventually scrapped. Two of the most interesting features of these leaked designs of iPad are 16:9 screen and a kickstand in the back that is featured in several design iterations.
The kickstands featuring in these pics were not similar and varied from each other to some extent. Some kickstands protruded from the back on a swivel joint while there were other kinds that could fold flush with the casing.
Another interesting fact revealed from the legal documents was that one of the iPad prototypes was named iPod. This shows that Apple was considering branding the tablet with this name before finally deciding on iPad.
There were also some interesting things about iPhone. Before the final launch of the device, several other design considerations were also made. One of the designs included an elongated device with the screen occupying only the upper half of the device, with the lower half composed of a blank panel. Besides, there were still other design considerations for the iPhone, such as an angular eight-sided design that would fit in on the set of “Battlestar Galactica.”
Identification numbers have been assigned to some of these prototypes but unfortunately, there are no dates on them which means that proper timeline cannot be assigned to them. But still, even if a proper timeline is missing, these prototypes certainly provide an insight into the creation process of Apple. The designs in the documents are certainly innovative and tell the story of how Apple finally arrived at the present name of iPad and the design of iPhone.
Microsoft has finally gotten into direct competition with Apple(0)
Microsoft has finally gotten into direct competition with Apple with the launch of its Surface tablets. Apple released the first generation version of its iPad two years ago for which large quantities of high quality aluminum was purchased from Australia in order to make the cases for iPad. The extent to which Apple went for iPad made it clear that Apple is very serious in gaining and retaining the market share. Microsoft executives, on the other hand, were not making such bets and hence were slow in progress.
With the recent launch of Microsoft tablet, the company has gotten into the hardware business for the first time in its history. This has also created a rift between Microsoft and its partners who were considering releasing their own tablets running Windows 8. There has been a long history of competition between Microsoft and Intel in the domain of microprocessor manufacturing and besides, Microsoft has also been extracting hefty fees from the manufacturers of hardware who has been running Windows on their devices.
Due to the other priorities and involvements of Microsoft, it has never taken a serious risk, unlike Apple. Apple, with the manufacture of iPad, made it clear that manufacturing your own software and hardware can certainly be a lot more advantageous. It had now become inevitable that either Microsoft entered in the market of tablets or Apple would’ve taken a lead which would’ve been impossible to chase. Former technology analyst, Lou Mazzucchelli, said that: “I believe Microsoft was painted into a corner. If they’ve didn’t move soon, Apple would have so much of a lead, it would be almost impossible to catch them.”
Microsoft has also made it clear that the hardware partners of company are not a factor in Microsoft’s decision regarding the Surface tablets. Microsoft corporate vice president, Steven Guggenheimer, said that Microsoft has immense respect for its partners and looks forward to the wide range of innovative Windows devices that they would bring in the market. Microsoft’s relation with HP also affected the decision of launching a tablet, since even before the launch of iPad, Microsoft was well aware that the days of PCs are almost numbered in favor of touch-control based devices. Microsoft had worked in collaboration with HP on a similar device named HP Slate 500 which, however, could not prove to be successful because of inefficient hardware. Eventually, Microsoft had to part ways with HP and after this partnership broke, Microsoft seriously started considering manufacturing its own tablet. Whether this tablet would be able to compete successfully with iPad or not would only be known after it is released on a wide scale.
Rumors regarding the release of a new iPad this summer(0)
Only three months have passed since the release of the new iPad and rumors have started surfacing that Apple is considering releasing another version of iPad this summer. The source which has claimed this happens to be Apple Daily, which is a Hong Kong based tech newspaper. According to this newspaper, Apple has been gearing up to launch another 9.7 inch version of its tablet as soon as this summer.
This certainly seems to be very impractical, considering that the new iPad has been doing pretty good in the market. But nothing can be said for sure about the tech industry these days since the trends keep changes at a very abrupt pace. As per the details of the report, the updated version of the iPad would come with “indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO) panel technology to allow the device to feature an even thinner design and longer battery life.”
Another important change that would be seen in the updated version of iPad, as per the sources, is that Apple would change the panel supplier for its devices from Samsung to Sharp. There has been a legal battle going on between Apple and Samsung for more than a year now, where each is accusing the other of patent infringement. May be Apple does not want to relay on Samsung anymore and has hence decided to strike a partnership with Sharp instead.
There have also been other rumors regarding another iPad to be launched this year. Previously, a tech source claimed that Apple has been preparing for the launch of a 10 inch iPad in the quarter 4 of 2012. But so far there isn’t any official backing of these rumors and everything is purely based on speculations. Besides, it seems highly unlikely that Apple would launch another iPad only three months after the launch of the new iPad. Apple also needs to work on the updated version of iPhone that is set to be released in the fall of this year. So to see what actually happens, we would have to wait for a few months.
The updated version of iOS might include iMaps and Siri for iPad(0)
Apple’s World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) is just around the corner and Apple has a tradition of introducing new devices during this event. Previous introductions during the event include iPhone and iPad. However, although there would not be any new device introduced this year during the event we certainly do expect the release of an updated version of iOS for Apple devices, iOS 6. Other than that, we can expect some updated Mac computers. iOS 6 would also be running on iPhone 5 which would be released later this year, so there have to be some important updates in this version of the operating system.
Rumors regarding the release of an Office version for iPad from Microsoft(0)
We have been long hearing rumors about Microsoft releasing an Office version for iPad, iPhone and even Android based devices, but so far any such thing has not materialized. Microsoft has denied such news but still there are various tech sources that are claiming that such a thing would certainly happen in near future. According to the unknown sources form Office sales team, the iPad version of the software would be announced by Microsoft during the SharePoint conference in November.

These days, you can use them to watch video content, stream music, interact with other on social networking forums and perform a variety of other tasks. This has given rise to the idea of ‘smart homes’ where the technical products would be completely integrated with each other. For example, you can use your iPad to control the Apple TV and with the passage of time, the penetration of tablet technology into over lives would certainly increase.
With the increasing influence of technology on our lives and the cloud technology, tablet can be used as the control center of the entire technically equipped house. For example, the security systems, television, lights and fans, alarms and even curtains could be controlled with the tablet in your hand sitting on the sofa. With the passage of time, it is possible that you would be able to perform all these tasks while being away from your home. Already we have manufacturers who have been developing apps for home automation system. Control4 is one such company that also has a iPad app and also owns a platform for which developers can create their apps. The company creates its own hardware for home automation and security systems. Besides, with this system you can also control the lights, temperature and operate electronics. A special iPad like product with the name of Comcast’s Xfinity Home Security product has been created by the company that can be used for these purposes. This device has its own iOS app and also comes with cellular data backup connection that can be used in case the broadband connection gets disconnected for some reason. Such systems are also being increasingly used for web-connected home security system, which are a cheaper and reliable alternative to rather expensive home surveillance systems. The Web Cam Technology used in these devices relies on the cloud based technology to maintain the footages recorded for security purposes. The footages recorded from these devices can be viewed from any tablet as long as you have the proper app installed.
So basically the increasing influence of tablets would enhance our everyday comfort with the help of smart phones where everything would be connected and automated and would certainly see the realization of all this in near future.
