While Apple fans are overall quite content with the new iPad, there are still many who prefer iPad 2. But regardless of the version, the limited space on 8 GB or 16 GB version of the new iPad can be problematic, particularly when you are traveling frequently. The Retina Display of the new iPad has turned many users from simple users to power users. People who previously used to only check mails and occasionally browse on their iPad now like to do much more things. Besides, the powerful processor of the new iPad, coupled with Retina Display, is a huge attraction for gamers. However, under such a situation, the 16 GB version can be quite a limitation and users indulging in too much use would certainly need to go for higher capacity version. There are many games and apps that exceed much more than 1 GB and a total memory of 16 GB seems next to nothing. The 16 GB version is also not recommended for people who have to travel quite frequently. Bad news for the owners of iPad 2 and 3^rd generation iPod touch: the updated features available in iOS 6, including Siri, would not be applicable on those devices. Apple has a sort of convention of supporting only the latest devices and this is exactly what has happened with the latest updated version of iOS.
 
The updated version of iOS was recently launched by Apple during the World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) of Apple in San Francisco. In this latest version of the operating system, some 200 new features have been added, including Siri for the new iPad as well as various other social networking features. The updated features would also be applicable on devices such as iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, fourth generation iPod as well as both version of Apple TV.
 
Other than Siri and various other social networking features, Apple has also launched its own version of Google Maps in this software update. In the Apple version of these maps, there would also be support for 3D version which could be activated form the device with a single button. According to the updated features for Facebook, users would now be able to post on Facebook from within the apps. Besides, they would now also be able to pull images from photo albums and identify locations from maps, all within the apps. Besides, birthdays and events on Facebook would be automatically synchronized with users’ calendars.
 
There are also certain improvements made in the Apple browser, Safari. The browser now supports live synchronization of tabs with Mountain Lion which would allow the synchronization of the browsing experience across all Apple devices of a user using iCloud. This means that if there is a tab opened on your iPad, you can leave it just that way and check it instead on your iPhone.
 
So there are significant improvements in iOS 6 but unfortunately, these improvements would only be seen on the latest Apple devices.

The new iPad from Apple has been here for some days now and it has been making a lot of headlines. Why you should buy it?

This is certainly a wise and timely move from Apple. Although Apple is still at the top of the tablet market and iPad happens to be the most popular tablet of all time, Android tablets has been giving tough competition to Apple for the last couple of years. Since the inception of the concept of tablet computers, Apple has been doing extremely well and according to Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, the company has sold more number of iPads than the computers sold by any other manufacturer in the world. This, on one hand, depicts the popularity of tablet computers and, on the other, shows the fame of iPads. In a sense, this is a post-PC revolution that has given an entirely new meaning to portable computing.
 
There were a lot of rumors and wild expectations from this version of iPad and to be perfectly honest, many of them have remained entirely unfulfilled. Many people have been waiting for their iPhone 4S upgrades because of the jailbreak issue since no such facility was available as yet. According to some critics, 3G or 4G is not really necessary for tablet computers and WiFi is all what you need. However, there are others who disagree with this stance and consider 3G to be of crucial importance for use of tablet computers outside of the house.

 The important issue is that of price but there is not a huge difference between the price of a device supporting 3G and the one not supporting. At present, the total cost per year of using 1 GB data plan of Verizon Wireless on the iPad 2 is around $240 which, including the two year contract, amounts to about $600 for two years. This is quite reasonable and is perfectly fine if you can have an access to 3G which is a must have these days. The second problem that emerges with WiFi is that, although it is becoming more and more common, it is not available everywhere. Besides, it is also not always free and in the absence of it, you are quite helpless. This becomes even more important when you are in a car and travelling. When we compare the cost of WiFi hot spots with 3G access, we find that 3G is much more viable and practical compared to WiFi. Overall, the importance of 3G or 4G for a tablet cannot be overemphasized and any tablet supporting this technology has a clear edge over the others.

Lately, LG which has been the largest panel supplier of iPad 2 have faced dome quality issues. Reports show that LGD’s 9.7-inch panel for iPad has failed to pass the drop test aside that their panel’s yield were also not able to meet Apple’s qualifications. At the time, LGD’s backlight also failed.
LGD originally planned to enhance their panel supply to Apple until the fourth quarter of 2011 to nearly four million, however since July of this year, LGD supply were undeniably shorter than the target number of shipment every month ranging from 2.5 – 2.6 million only. This means that the LGD overall can be likely affected in the third quarter of the year. According to reports, LGD is now making solutions to the challenged being faced with today but with this issue Samsung Electronics and Chimei Innolux have won the 9.7 orders that were supposed to be from LGD.
Although it was a bad loss for LGD, the instance was great chance for Samsung and Chimei Innolux to increase its share of display production with iPad 2. The legal battle over the intellectual property that had commenced between Apple and Samsung a few months ago has now intensified. The newest episode in this regard is that Samsung has decided to postpone the release of its Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia. Originally, the event to launch the product was decided to be on 11th of August, 2011. But after some consideration, Samsung authorities decided to postpone the event for the time being. Not only this, most probably the other product which was to be released on the same day, GalTab 10.1 would also be postponed. According to the latest resources, GalTab 10.1 would be released in near future now, but the exact date of the release has not yet been announced.

What the resources revealed more is that Samsung has recently reached an agreement with Apple by which Samsung would not release its Galaxy Tab in Australia. But to Apple’s utter chagrin, Samsung found the other way round and decided to release another product in close resemblance with Galaxy Tab. Although this was not the direct breach of the agreement, it certainly was a move that annoyed Apple. So after some more argument, Samsung has, for the time being, delayed the release of any of its tablet products in Australia. What happens in near future is yet to be decided. The battle started when Samsung released its Tablet earlier this year and especially, after the cover for the tablet was released which was exactly like iPad2’s cover in design. Although Samsung denies any allegations of copying, there is some close resemblance between iPad2 and Galaxy Tab when it comes to the technical specifications. In fact, in certain aspects such as camera, memory and display etc., Galaxy Tab has an edge over iPad2. Both products have almost similar prices so in the same price range it seems that Galaxy Tab has more to offer to the customers as compared to iPad2.

Although the event for the release was cancelled, it by no means signifies that the release of the product has totally been cancelled. The release has merely been postponed and the product would most probably be released later this year. By then, the legal battle between Apple and Samsung would also, most probably, wither away and customers all over the world would be able to take a sigh of relief. For now, anticipating Australian fans would have to keep their fingers crossed for some time, probably not more than a few months.
