The new iPad has a clear edge over the latest Samsung tablet The new iPad has a clear edge over the latest Samsung tablet(0)

We have the latest version of the Apple iPad while Samsung has also announced the next version of its famous tablet Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 during the Mobile World Congress. Among the Android tablets, Samsung’s tablet is the most popular tablet in the market while Apple’s iPad is, as we already know, the most popular tablet of all time. A brief comparison of these two giant devices is in order.

A noteworthy aspect with regard to both these tablets is that you won’t find many hardware changes in both of them, even though there are several software enhancements, among them being 4G LTE capability for both.  With respect to the physical structure of these devices, even though Galaxy Tab is a bit thicker compared to iPad, its weight is slightly lower. The weight of iPad happens to be 662g while the corresponding weight of the Samsung tablet is 588g. With respect to the screen resolution, the new iPad has clear edge with its Retina Display, having a resolution of 2048 x1536 and a pixel density of 224 ppi. The resolution of Galaxy Tab 2, on the other hand, is 800 x 1280 pixels along with a pixel density of 149 ppi. When we compare the processing power of these devices, once again, Apple seems to have an edge. Surprisingly, Samsung didn’t upgrade its device to the anticipated quad core processor and instead decided to retain the 1 GHz dual core processor along with 1 GB or RAM memory. The new iPad, in comparison, runs on efficient dual core Apple A5X processor, with its widely acclaimed architecture.

From the software side, the battle between iOS and Android continues. Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 would come with Ice Cream Sandwich which has an extremely well designed user interface while Apple tablet would run the latest version of iOS, that is, iOS 5.1.

There was no update in the camera feature of the Samsung tablet as well and it remains to be the same 3.15 mega pixel camera with a resolution of 2048×1536 pixels and HD video recording in 720p format. Apple’s new iPad, on the other hand, contains a 5 mega pixel rare and camera with 1080p video recording along with video stabilization. So basically the bottom line is that the new iPad has a clear edge over the latest Samsung tablet and its pretty evident that some fine hardware and software enhancements have been made by Apple while Samsung, although contrary to the expectations, didn’t really impress the tech buffs.

Acer is set to release the next version of its tablet – Acer Iconia A510 Acer is set to release the next version of its tablet – Acer Iconia A510(0)

Acer was not very active in the market of the mobile devices for a while but now it seems that the tech giant is brushing the dust off. Just a few days ago, we learnt that Acer is accelerating its marketing campaign in the European market and for this purpose the company has hired the services of a leading advertising agency. The reason was that Acer’s first tablet failed to do well in the market of tablet computers where competition is already quite high.

Other than paying special attention to the marketing strategy, Acer is also set to release the next version of its tablet soon. This version is named Acer Iconia A510 and would most probably be released in April. Just like the previous version, this tablet would also be running Android. We are not sure about whether it would come with Gingerbread or Ice Cream Sandwich but chances are that it would come with the later. A while ago, this tablet showed up at FCC, although detailed technical specifications of the device could not be revealed. Although the tablet would be equipped with Bluetooth, WiFi and GPS, there does not seem to be any support for 3G or 4G at the moment, which is no doubt a huge problem. Already we have several tablets in the market that have support for 3G and 4G and releasing a tablet without any support for these technologies can create problems. We can expect a slimmer version from Acer since the previous version was also beautiful physically. The tab would have standard 10 inch size like most other Android tablets in the market. The plastic structure of the Acer tablet, coupled with beautiful design does give it a very special look. Technical specifications of the initial version were not bad so with al the expected improvements in this version of the tablet, we are sure Acer would have something special in store.

According to the sources, this tablet would be released in April, although we are not sure about the exact release date of the tablet. During the first quarter of 2012, we are expecting the release of several new high end devices and this might be one of them. Thanks to the new marketing strategy of Acer, this tablet might be able to do something good for the company. Keep your fingers crossed till April.

The 3.15 MP rare end camera of this tablet would be able to record HD videos in 720p while there would also be a 2 MP front end camera. How to upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich your Galaxy S How to upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich your Galaxy S(0)

The latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, has been released only on Galaxy Nexus. This version of Android is certainly the very best version released so far and Android users have been craving to use it on their devices. But the problem that the owners of previous models of Android devices are facing is that the ICS update would not be available for the previous devices before 2012. However, this is what would happen officially and unofficially, you can use MIUI version that has been built upon the ICS framework. To activate this version on your device, you would have to follow a few simple steps. First of all, download Gingerbread XXJVS firmware which would be in the form of a zip file. Extract this zip file in any desired folder and then download Odin3 flash tool which would be extracted in the same folder. Execute the Odin3 v1.7.exe file present in the later download. After that, reboot your device while pressing the volume down + ok buttons. Then connect your device to your computer and open the PDA tab from the Odin3 window and select CODE_I9000XXJVS_CL565837_REV03_user_low_ship.tar  from your folder. After that, select GT-I9000-CSC-MULTI-OXAJVS.tar from the CSC tab from the same folder. The flashing process would start once you click the start button in Odin3. After that you would have to restart your device in the recovery mode.

In case you had previously rooted your device, it would be unrooted before this update. To root it again, just download the rooting file and just keep it in the zip format. From the Odin3 flash tool, click the PDA tab and select CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVS-v4.1-CWM3RFS.zip. There isn’t any need to bother about the rest of the tabs. Start the flashing process and once it is complete, the phone would be rebooted automatically. Then you would need to download the MIUI ICS ROM for your device and copy it to the SD card of the phone. There would be a CWM Manager app which you would open and choose the option to reboot to ClockworkMod Recovery. In that mode, you would have to wipe the cache, data as well as partition. Finally, install the MIUI ICS file from your SD card that you had previously saved. Once the process completes, just reboot your device again and that’s it, you would be ready to enjoy the ICS update.

Samsung is planning to release a 11.6 inch version of Galaxy Tab Samsung is planning to release a 11.6 inch version of Galaxy Tab(0)

Among all the Android tablets that are available in the market, Samsung Galaxy Tab is probably the most popular. Now after 10.1 inch and 7.7 inch versions of the device, rumor has it that Samsung is also planning to release a 11.6 inch version of the device with high resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels. The pixel density at this resolution would be 260 pixels which is still good for this size. The size of the device is nominally larger than the 10.1 inch model and this large display is managed due to the small bezel and frame size. The device would come with Samsung Exynos 5250 chipset and would most probably run Ice Cream Sandwich. However, there isn’t any confirmed news about the technical specifications of the tablet, but we can certainly expect an enhanced ARM processor and other improved specifications. This processor would facilitate improved 3D graphics and would also be a good competitor of iPad 3′s A6 processor. To support the Android beam feature of ICS, there would also be an NFC chip on board. Other expectations include LTE connectivity and compatibility with HDTV. Samsung would most probably unveil this amazing piece of technology at the Mobile World Congress in February of 2012.
