The home button of iPad is prone to unresponsive behavior as a result of normal wear and tear. If you are facing this kind of situation and have run out of the Apple warranty, do not despair since there are some methods that you can apply and get yourself out of this inconvenience. The first method that you can use to get rid of the unresponsiveness of the home button is calibration. This method can be used only if the home button is unresponsive as a result of some software glitch. Using this method, open up any random stock app and hold down the sleep button of your phone until “Slide to power off” option appears. Once the option appears, release the sleep button and hold the home button instead. Wait for a few seconds after which the app would be closed. This is probably the simplest method to get rid of the home button unresponsiveness problem but it only works if the problem is of software nature and not too serious. One of the reasons for the unresponsiveness of the home button can also be phone’s docking port, which gets misaligned as a result of normal wear and tear. The misalignment of the docking port also moves the home button from its actual position. The solution for this problem is simple but subtle. Plug a USB cable into your phone and gently push down on the 30-pin connector. After it moves behind the home button apply the pressure and click the home button. Sometimes, the problem of the unresponsiveness of the home button can be resolved by simply cleaning your home button and phone. The solution that you would use for this purpose is 98-99 percent isopropyl alcohol, which is easily available from hardware stores. Dip a few drops of this solution on a tissue or a cotton cloth and clean the home button while avoiding the screen. Check your phone about 10-15 minutes after cleaning it. If all the above methods fail, the problem might be a bit serious. Final solution that you can resort is to align the home button connectors, which have most probably been misaligned. As a last resort, you can use the on-screen home button on the phone. You can do this by turning on the “Assistive Touch” feature present in the “Settings” of the phone.

Panasonic presents a 20-inch tablet running Windows 8

Panasonic’s 4K Windows 8 tablet has to be one of the finest products from the company in recent years. Introduced during the CES 2013 a few days ago, this tablet has all the potential to become one of the best tablets of 2013. However, Panasonic has followed its tradition of targeting specific audiences and like the three other tablets from the ToughPad Series, this would also be for a specific group of audience. Equipped with an amazing 3820 by 2560 pixel IPS display, this would be the first 20inch tablet of the world with 4K resolution. The tablet has an aspect ratio of 15:10 and has a pixel density of 230 ppi. This pixel density is not as high as iPad (264ppi) but is certainly higher than many other quality tablets in the market, including Google Nexus 7, whose pixel density is 216ppi. The tablet is powered by 1.8GHz Intel Core i5 3427U vPro processor and has a default RAM memory of 4GB. The RAM memory can be expanded up to 16GB. Internal storage capacity of the tablet is 128GB. Another very interesting aspect of the tablet is its thickness which is less than many Windows and Android tablets in the market, Panasonic tablet having physical dimensions of 18.7 by 13.1 by 0.4 inches. Although the size of the tablet is considerably larger than any other tablet in the market, it still feels quite light and is easy to carry around, although not as easy as an average tablet. There is a USB 2.0 port on the tablet and expectations are that it would be upgraded to USB 3.0 port once the device is released. There is still much to know about this remarkable device but detailed information has not been released as yet. Panasonic has so far also not announced the exact release date and price of the tablet. The target audiences of this tablet are people like photographers, videographers, and architects. An additional feature is that the tablet has support for light pen from Anoto, which you can use to write and draw on the display. The legal battle between Apple and Samsung seems to be never ending, with Apple grabbing a recent victory against Samsung when the later was asked by court to pay $1.05 billion to Apple in terms of damages. But on the other hand, Samsung devices continue to sell like hot cakes and bad news for Apple is that its iPhone 5 was not as successful as was expected. Samsung Galaxy S III, on the other hand, proved to be immensely successful and turned out to be the most popular Android smartphone of all time. The new CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, seems to be taking measures in order to retain the market leadership of Apple. He recently announced that Apple would be brining the production of some Mac devices at home which would increase the jobs in the US. Sources have further revealed that the company is also gearing up for a new version of iPhone, dubbed iPhone 5S, along with the subsequent version of its mobile operating system, iOS7. The device and the OS combined have appeared on Apple app developer logs in recent weeks dubbed as iPhone 6,1. But of course, considering that most of this is speculation, there is no information about the specifications of the either. We also don’t have any official confirmation from Apple so far. Several business analysts have also suggested that Apple is also considering increasing the variety of its smartphone and might offer 6 to 8 colors and screen sizes on the upcoming version of the iPhone. This would be more like the strategy of Samsung which has been offering its top devices like Galaxy phones in different colors. Vizio uses Windows 8 for its 11-inch tablet

Vizio is a relatively new entrant in the PC space and is already making its presence felt. The retailer has taken a unique approach with the announcement of their standalone Windows 8 tablet called MT 11X-A1. Unlike this move from Vizio, all of the Windows 8 tablet-styled devices available so far are more like laptops that fold into quasi-slates. We also have a few hybrid devices whose displays can be separated from the bodies. But other than mere physical size and display types, the new Vizio device also differs from the previous Windows 8 tablets in several other ways. Windows 8 tablet-styled devices released so far, hybrids as well as convertibles, have been running on Intel Core i-series or Atom processors. Unlike these devices, the 11.6-inch system offered by Vizio is equipped with a low-power AMD Z60. Resolution of this new device would be 1,920x,1080 pixels, which seems perfect for the Windows 8 tile user interface. However, using this resolution on a traditional Windows desktop computers running Windows 8 might not be an altogether easy experience, particularly when we consider that Windows 8 is significantly different from all the previous versions of Windows OS. A few technical specifications of this special tablet from Vizio include 2GB of RAM memory, 64GB SSD and a weight of 1.7 pounds. Remaining technical specs would be clear with the passage of time. Considering that this device comes with a low-power AMD processor and smaller SSD, price factor would be important for it. But so far there are no details regarding the price or exact release date of the device. This move from Vizio is quite interesting and would determine the future course of the retailer with respect to Windows devices. Windows tablets have proven to be quite successful in the market during the first few months, although exact sales figures have not been released by Microsoft. During the holiday season, it was announced by Microsoft that due to the high demand for the tablet, the company has decided to increase its production. Apple’s iPad Mini proved to be quite successful in the market of small tablets and it has been competing very well against Amazon Kindle Fire and Google Nexus 7 tablets. However, rumor has it that Apple is already working on the production of next generation iPad Mini, although there is no information about detailed timeframe. Even if such a production is under process, the actual release would be far since Apple is yet to complete the global rollout of its first generation iPad Mini. The news that chipmakers are already working on the component parts of second generation iPad Mini was revealed by RBC Capital Markets analyst Doug Freedman during his visit of supply chain sources in China. According to the note by Freedman, "iPad Mini Gen-2: Apple's gen-2 iPad mini is getting pulled-in, and is likely to have several new suppliers, with TXN gaining content.” The note, however, reveals no information regarding the expected release date of the next generation iPad Mini. The note also suggests that Texas Instruments would play an important role in the component development of the upcoming Apple devices. This makes perfect sense since Apple is already looking ways to reduce its dependence on Samsung as the supplier of necessary internal components of its devices. Previously, several other rumors also emerged related to Apple’s efforts to improve the display of iPad Mini and make it closer to Retina Display. Retina Display is already in effect on the latest versions of standard iPad as well as iPhone. Rumors suggested that Apple has focused its attention to make possible Retina Display for upcoming version of iPad Mini. Apple has yet not completed the worldwide rollout of iPad Mini. The device would hit the Chinese market by the end of this year. Network licenses for the cellular enabled version of iPad Mini were recently granted by Chinese Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center. After the completion of licensing requirements, the device would be released in the market via the Chinese partners of Apple, China Unicom and China Telecom. Apple vs Samsung fight in court

Apple’s request to ban Samsung phones which supposedly infringe upon its patents has been denied by the court. This relates to eight Samsung phones, including Samsung Galaxy S II, which would not be removed from the market because there is no evidence that users are specifically seeking those features on these phones which are copied. Previously, the court asked Samsung to pay $1.05 billion to Apple in terms of damages. However, Apple’s demand that these phones be banned from the market was denied by judge because of the lack of evidence from Apple to prove that the features used on these phones have resulted in the loss of iPhone sales. Apple said that Samsung phones have made iPhone lost its market share and hence these phones should be banned from the market. It also said that these phones have also rendered damage to Apple devices as well as software. However, this argument was not bought by the judge. But Apple seems adamant and might appeal later. Judge Koh wrote in her order that "Though evidence that Samsung attempted to copy certain Apple features may offer some limited support for Apple's theory, it does not establish that those features actually drove consumer demand." Apple was hoping to get eight out of 21 Samsung devices banned. Many of these devices are still being sold in the market, even though they are more than a year old. However, Apple is also trying to add latest devices from Samsung in the injunction, including Galaxy S III, which happens to be the most popular smartphone from Samsung. Samsung, on the other hand, said that it is pleased with the decision made by Judge Koh. There are several matters that are yet to be decided regarding the decision. For instance, Judge Koh is yet to rule on other post-trial proceedings such as whether the entire amount of $1 billion should be withheld. Besides, it is also yet to be decided whether the copying of the alleged features was intentional, in which case Apple would receive increased amount in damages. Samsung previously requested for a new trial, stating that jury foreman, Velvin Hogan, had a prejudice against Samsung since he was sued by Seagate, an associate of Samsung. Judge Koh, however, denied the request for a new trial. In a related matter, Samsung announced that is dropping injunction requests against Apple in several European countries. Although it is suing Apple, it no longer seeks a ban on iPhone in order to protect the interest of the consumers. Samsung is also facing an antitrust investigation in Europe, investigating whether Samsung illegally prevented competitors from licensing patents essential for wireless communications.

New look for Google News on tablets

Google has announced that it would be revamping its Google News service for a variety of devices, including its own Nexus tablets. According to the tech giants, the user interface of the service would be changed for Nexus 7, Nexus 10, iPad and other major tablets. The new interface would make the service more natural and streamlined on the tablets. The announcement was made by Google News product manager Mayuresh Saoji who said that the new design would add “more breathing room between articles, making it easier to spot the stories you really care about.” Google News is one of the most popular services from the company and according to the official estimates of Google, it drives more than 6 million page views per month to the news sites that it links. Other than the user interface, several new features would also be added to the service. For instance, with the new service, users would be able to use gestures to find new articles, sources and specific topics of interest. Swiping gestures would be enhanced, with the new horizontal swiping gesture allowing users to switch between the sections. Various features that are already existent on the web service would also be added to the tablet version of the service. For instance, with the “Explore in Depth” features, users would be able to find related information to the particular information that they have been searching. This feature could be used with a single tap on the screen of the tablet. These recent changes follow the changes that were already made by Google at the start of the year. The changes made at the start of the year included the new navigation menu at the top of the Google News page. This design feature has also been incorporated in several other Google services. The most prominent change, however, remains to be the new user interface which is more intuitive and streamlined. The updated Google News services would only be available for the US users for the time being. Samsung ATIV Smart PC is the latest Windows 8 Ultrabook-grade CPU offering from Samsung. This device comes with 11.6 inch display, a dual-core 1.8GHz Clover Tail processor, and a 4,080 mAh battery. The battery has the ability of running the device for up to seven hours. LTE-enabled model from AT&T is available at a price of $700 under contract. Without contract, the tablet comes at a price of $800. The price of the tablet seem a bit too high since most of the competing tablets that fall in the same category are available at a price between $500 and $600. There isn’t much of a difference between the design of this Smart PC and Samsung’s previous tablets. The only difference in the general outlook is that this device has a slick, shiny finish. The device is also a bit heavier with a weight of 1.65 pounds and thickness of 0.39 inches. These physical dimensions make it the thickest Smart PC available in the market. The huge 11.6 inch display of the device makes it a bit awkward to use, particularly in the landscape mode. However, good thing is that most of the touch-based controls in Windows 8 are along the edges of the screen, which makes the functions a bit easier to manage. Samsung Ativ Smart PC contains a full-sized USB 2.0 port. This USB placement is actually a good thing since users would not have to pay extra $130 to have that feature, as it is commonly found on the separate keyboard dock instead of the tablet itself. Along the top edge of the device, there is also a USIM port and a microSD slot. On the left side, we have micro-HDMI port and volume rocker. On the back side of the device, there is an 8 megapixel camera equipped with LED flash. The camera also has the ability of capturing 1080p HD videos. Other than the native camera app, Samsung has also included another app with the name of S Camera. This app has the features of one-touch flash controls, a sliding lever to toggle between video and stills, and manual brightness, contrast and exposure controls. The 11.6 inch display of the device has a resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels which amounts to a pixel density of 135 ppi. The resolution is certainly not very impressive, considering that most of the latest high end tablets come with a better resolution. Generally, the apps, during the initial runs, tend to run slow or simply freeze on this device, which is quite annoying for an expensive tablet like Ativ Smart. The built-in LTE radio of the device delivers good performance, with peak download speeds of 27.5 Mbps and max upload speeds of 14.5 Mbps. Overall, while there are several good features available in Samsung Ativ Smart PC, the price seems to be too high for a device like this, and there are better alternatives available in the market in the same price range.
