According to the latest information from some of the most reliable industry sources, Apple would launch its iPhone and the highly anticipated mini iPad during two separate events this fall. The sources have even pin-pointed the exact dates, according to which the event unveiling the iPhone would come before the mini iPad event. iPhone 5 would be unveiled during an Apple event on September 12.
Sources have also revealed that the launch of mini iPad would be done after iPhone 5 has launched and is already on sale. The exact date of the event that would see the unveiling of the mini iPad, however, is not known as yet, even though the event would be held in October. It is quite understandable that Apple would reserve separate events for both these devices, considering that both of them happen to be blockbusters. Previously it was speculated that Apple might launch both these devices during the same event but according to reliable tech sources, this would be highly unlikely since releasing both devices during the same event would divide the separate attention which they would otherwise command.
According to John Gruber of Daring Fireball, Apple would not want the reviews of both iPhone and mini iPad appearing at the same time since this would divide the attention. Apple would clearly not want a new product from the company battling for top spots in the news coverage. So it makes perfect sense that Apple would reserve separate events for both these grand devices.
So it seems that the season just before holidays would be particularly very active for Apple. Two new major events announcing the launch of two major Apple devices is something that would certainly capture the limelight for a good while. But we do have expectations of major products from other tech giants: second generation version of Amazon Kindle Fire to name one. Whatever turn the situation takes, next few months would be very exciting for the fans of smart phones and tablets.

Samsung recently announced the 10.1 tablet version of its Samsung Galaxy Note. Important technical specs of the device include screen resolution of 1280 by 800 pixels, 5 megapixel back end camera, 9 hours of battery life and the facility of microSD card for memory expansion. The device comes with an S Pen that would be used for jotting down notes anywhere and anytime. However, compared to the iPad, third party applications for the tablet are quite limited. The 16 GB version of the tablet has been priced at $499 while the 32 GB version would be available for $549.

Compared to Galaxy Note 10.1, the price of the new iPad starts at $499 for the 16 GB version and goes up to $699 for 64 GB version. It has a better resolution of 2048 by 1536 pixels and has the same 5 megapixel rear end camera onboard. But iPad clearly has a much better access to third-party applications, other than Apple’s own wide range of apps from iTunes. The tablet also has support for 4G wireless broadband networks.

A while back, the second generation version of Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 was also launched. Price for this tablet happens to be $399 for 16 GB version which is quite reasonable. Important technical specs of the device include a resolution of 1280 by 800 pixels, 3 megapixel rear end camera and 11 hours of battery life. There is also a 7 inch version of the device available for $250. Although selection of third-party apps is not bad, it is still far from Apple’s iPad.

Finally there is Surface tablet from Microsoft which would be launched in a month or so. Details about the technical specs of the device have not been revealed as yet but initial reviews and expectations in the industry are quite high. Besides, this tablet would also be available in 128 GB version which does not exist with any other tablet. With the launch of Surface tablet from Microsoft, the competition would certainly be intensified. Microsoft has pretty much bridged the gap between a tablet and a laptop with the the introduction of its Surface tablet. Besides, the competition in the domain of 7 inch tablets has also considerably increased, given the launch of Google Nexus 7 and the expected launch of the second generation Kindle Fire.

Good news for the fans of Galaxy Note: the larger, 10.1 inch, version of the tablet would be launched during August, as per the official announcement by Samsung. The tablet, which would come with an S Pen style, would come in two models: WiFi only and 3G. 4G LTE models would also follow at a later stage. So far details regarding the price of the tablet have not been provided by Samsung.

This means that Google tablet would certainly make it big in the market, which can be an alarming situation for Amazon Kindle Fire. Besides, the brand name of Google coupled with the reasonable price would play its role in the success of this tablet. Google Play is a relatively recent innovation but it has done pretty good since its inception. Besides, Google has collected all its services at a single place in its new tablet which would certainly contribute towards the popularity of this device. By the time Google Nexus hits the market, Amazon would most probably announce the second generation version of its tablet. As for the winner of this contest, that would be known after both devices are released and tested by experts and common users.

  Acer has become one of the very first tech giants to officially announce a Windows 8 based tablet, although such initiatives are expected from several other manufacturers in near future. The announcement was made during the Computex trade show in Taipei. Acer has previously announced two Windows 8 tablets that would be shipped during the fall of this year. However, so far Acer has not given out any official information regarding the technical specs, price or exact release date of the tablet. Previously we also have a Windows 7 based tablet from Acer known as Iconia Tab W500, where the W indicated Windows. For Android based tablets form Acer, we find the subscript A. With the Windows 8 tablet, however, there won’t be any more “Tab” with the name of the device.
 
The names of these two Windows 8 based tablets form Acer are Iconia W510 and the Iconia W700, and both of them have Intel x86 architecture. This architecture would allow the tablets to run Windows 8 in full mode, including the desktop mode. So far, only very little information is know regarding the technical specs of the devices. All we know is that Acer Iconia W510 would have a display size of 10.1 inch and a screen resolution of 1280 by 800 pixels. The tablet, just like the previous W500, would have a detachable clamshell keyboard dock. This would also result in an extended battery life, which can go to as many as 18 hours with Windows 8 running.
 
The other tablet named Iconia W700, which is also being called the “Performance” Windows 8 tablet, seems particularly interesting. This would be an 11.6 inch tablet having a screen resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels which makes it much better compared to most Android tablets available in the market at present. This unique tablet would come with multipurpose dock, and users would be able to tilt the display up to 70 degrees. Besides, this device would have 3 USB ports onboard for added facility.
 
So far information regarding the exact release date or price of these tablets is not known. However, it is expected that the price would fall somewhere between $400 and $800 for W510 and $800 to $1000 for W700. The price is slightly lower than Samsung Series 7 Slate, although there is not much of a difference. But overall, it would certainly be great to test a Windows 8 based tablet in near future.

Dell does not have a very good experience with tablets, even though its history as a manufacturer of personal computers is remarkable. Previously, Dell released its 5 inch tablet with the name of Streak tablet which could not attract much attention. Besides, the tablet was also criticized by many people due to some functionality issues. This is the only tablet from Dell so far and comes with Android operating system. At present, Dell is not selling this tablet any more, although it can be purchased from third party retailers. But it seems that Dell has not given up and is planning to release another tablet in near future. According to Steve Felice, the chief commercial officer of Dell, the company would be releasing an 8 inch tablet in near future. This tablet would be running Windows 8 since the initial reception of Windows 8 is very high and positive. Besides, the touch interface that accompanies Windows 8 is compatible with a variety of different products.

Even though Dell has not been able to make a mark in the market of tablets, it is still a huge name when it comes to the development of personal desktops and laptops. At present, Dell is the third largest manufacturer of personal computers, after HP and Lenovo. The new tablet, however, would be announced in the second half of 2012 and most probably we would see it in the market in early 2013. One of the main aims of this tablet, according to Dell, would be to incorporate the common and commercial requirements, since the workers in the IT departments of the companies are fed up of doing such incorporation for the employees, which also results in a lot of overhead. Right now there are several serious issues such as security, compatibility, device management etc. and tackling all these issues from a single device is certainly a huge task, and Dell intends to undertake such as task in the new tablet. Besides, Dell still believes there is a lot of room for innovation and improvement in the market of the tablets, since the processing power and typing facilities in the tablets are still not as good as conventional computers. Dell would possibly also bring forward some ideas to cover the gap that exists between conventional computers and tablets on this front.
