Siri is now available for iPad with iOS 6(0)
Finally the much awaited World Wide Developers Conference of Apple has taken place during which the upcoming version of Apple operating system, iOS 6, was announced. This updated OS would come with some 200 new features but the most important of them all would be support for Siri in the new iPad. The version of Siri for iPad, however, is a bit different compared to its iPhone counterpart. On iPad, Siri is not a full screen experience and every time it is activated, a small screen would open for operation. Rest of the functionality is pretty much similar to the version found on iPhone 4S.
At present, Siri has support for several languages including English, French, German, Japanese, Cantonese, Italian, Korean, and Mandarin. There are various useful features that consumers would be able to use on Siri for iPad. For example, locating a restaurant in a nearby area has become much simpler. A good local restaurant can be pinpointed using Yelp while reservations can be made with the help of OpenTable. Movie fans can ask for information about actor, the director, as well as review ratings from popular film websites such as IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes. Fandango can then be used to purchase tickets for the required films. Besides, users interested in sports can also ask for the scores of the games played previous night and the batting averages of their favorite players. So basically, voice assistance of Siri would certainly make the use of iPad much more interesting, just like it did with the iPhone previously.
There is also a new Passbook feature in the updated version of iOS, which can be used to redeem coupons, get into concerts, or check into hotels. A virtual wallet is used to store user’s tickets and coupons providing the necessary management functions. Good thing about this app is that it can also update a flight gate number on a boarding pass in real time.
There are also certain improvements in the communication features of the tablet. You can now set you own VIP Mailbox which would contain the most important emails that you would receive. There are also certain pre-written messages such as “I’ll call you later” or “I’m on my way” which users can use in case they don’t want to receive the incoming call. Another very important feature is Apple’s own version of Google Maps, featuring vector-based map elements equipped with panning, tilting, and zooming functions. The app also has support for the 3D mode. Finally, there are certain improvements with respect to social website integration as well as the Safari browser.
The updated version of iOS might include iMaps and Siri for iPad(0)
Apple’s World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) is just around the corner and Apple has a tradition of introducing new devices during this event. Previous introductions during the event include iPhone and iPad. However, although there would not be any new device introduced this year during the event we certainly do expect the release of an updated version of iOS for Apple devices, iOS 6. Other than that, we can expect some updated Mac computers. iOS 6 would also be running on iPhone 5 which would be released later this year, so there have to be some important updates in this version of the operating system.
Samsung would probably release two different versions of tablets during MWC(0)
Although it seems quite unlikely that anyone would beat Apple in the market of tablets in near future, retaining the top position in market would certainly become tougher with the passage of time. Till now, no one has been seriously able to threat the monopoly of Apple over the tablets and ever since the introduction of iPad, Apple has been the undisputed winner of the industry. Now the news about the release of the next model of iPad is circulating which would probably be released in March. But in the other news, Samsung is also gearing up for the competition. According to some resources, Samsung has been planning to release two different versions of its tablet which would most probably be released during the Mobile World Congress this month. Apparently these two mysterious devices have already gone through all the production phases and are almost ready to be announced. The model numbers of these two devices happen to be GT-P3100 and GT-P5100 and both have already got the WiFi certifications by the WiFi Alliance. There is, however, not a complete confirmation about these devices being tablets or smart phones. But the GT-P that has been used for these devices has been used for Samsung’s Android based tablet line up. So we cannot be completely sure about the actual identity of these devices before the event but speculations and rumors suggest that these devices are actually tablets. Previously, there have also been rumors about the giant upcoming version of Galaxy Tab which would be an 11.6 inch version of Samsung Galaxy Tab. This huge device would also be equipped with a quad-core Exynos processor and showcase a fine resolution of 2560 x 1600. Samsung might also be considering releasing something as a response to Amazon’s Kindle Fire since Kindle Fire has proven to be an immensely successful tablet.
We can’t say what other products Samsung would be releasing during the WMC this month but we can expect the release of at least one tablet, whether it is the upcoming giant version of Samsung Galaxy Tab or simply some new tablet. And if we do get a tablet, this would certainly increase the competition for Apple considerably. However, it would still need something extraordinary to come close to Apple in the arena of tablets and this seems quite unlikely in near future.
The Mobile World Congress event will showcase a lot of new gadgets(0)
Mobile World Congress is to be held during February and we would certainly be seeing some of the finest and high speed tech devices in the event this year. Needless to say, this year there would be more number of smart phones and tablets in the event than any other previous event.
Let’s start with the offerings that Samsung would be making this year. Over the last year, Samsung has established a well acclaimed position in the market of smart phones and tablets and the Galaxy line of products is particularly exciting. During the MWC this year, everyone is expecting to see Galaxy S III unveiled so this is something that would be the biggest excitement associated with Samsung. But not only that, we would also see some of the mid range and low range mobile devices from Samsung during the event. The most important product that we would see from Sony would certainly be Sony Xperia S, and of course, Sony would officially take over the Sony Ericsson portfolio during this event. Other expected devices from Sony include Xperia Nypon and Kumquat.
Moving to HTC, this company has a history of releasing some of its finest products during the MWC, so we can certainly expect some very exciting stuff unveiled from HTC this year as well. HTC also needs to do something big to overcome its stock price drop in 2011. A quad core device is expected from HTC this year named HTC Edge, and another dual core device HTC Ville. HTC has not proven to be very successful with tablets so release of a new table during this event is quite unlikely. As for Nokia, we should keep the expectation low but still Nokia might unveil an anticipated device like Nokia Champaign. Talking about ZTE, the company is planning to release smart phones running Android as well as those running Windows Phone. ZTE, at the moment, is not among the top manufacturers of smart phones and tablets so for the time being the sole focus of its attention would most probably be the domain of smart phones. One big thing that we can expect from Asus would be the detailed showcasing of PadFone during this event. Other than that, there isn’t any news from Asus about any other product so far. PadFone, however, would certainly be exciting to see since this is a unique combination of a tablet and a smart phone. Finally, people are expecting quite a bit from Microsoft this year. Important products that we can expect from Microsoft to be unveiled include the highly anticipated Windows 8 version known as Apollo and another low-spec version with the name of Tango.
So this year, MWC event would certainly showcase a lot of new high end exciting gadgets. Tech geeks are restlessly waiting for this event which is scheduled to be held during February. So you won’t have to wait much to see the proceedings of this grant event and a chance to delight your eyes with the latest platoon of high tech devices.
The CES 2012 would be showcasing some of the finest and latest high end products(0)
The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) at Las Vegas is certainly one of the largest technology shows on earth. Thousands of people, from all walks of life, who have slightest interest in technology and gadgets come to this show. This year, the competition in almost all fields of consumer electronics would probably be highest, including software as well as hardware domains. The event would showcase almost every important product that the tech giants have been developing for the last twelve years. Particularly, the domain of smart phones, tablets and ultra thin books is of particular interest. However, the pioneer in the field of smartphones and tablets, Apple, would not be present at the show since Apple has not been attending CES since 2009. We would be seeing a lot of cutting edge gadgets and products during this event that would continue for three days. HD TVs, latest tablets, mobile phones and other products by the technology giants and market leaders would be showcased and common people attending the show would be able to have hands on experience of these devices.
Microsoft has also been planning to showcase some important products such as Xbox, Windows 8 and Windows Mobile during this event. A noteworthy aspect in relation to Microsoft is that the mobile manufacturer partner of Microsoft, Nokia, is also holding a news media event at CES. Nokia would also introduce its new line of Windows Mobile based devices during the event. But probably the most exciting aspect of this event would be a wide range of Android based devices, including latest tablets and smartphones from all price ranges and technical specs. So basically all the halls of Las Vegas Convention Center would be showcasing some of the finest and latest high end products from the arena of technology and from the top tech giants of the world. During the last couple of years, there has been an immense progress in the field of technology generally and in the field of mobile devices particularly. So we should be expecting to see some high tech gadgets and previously unseen devices during this remarkable tech event. During 2012, we are expecting the release of some of the best devices from tech giants including Apple, Microsoft, Google and others. So we can safely regard this event to be the best CES event organized so far, even though we would be missing the participation of Apple and hence the coveted Apple products.
Galaxy Note and Galaxy Tab 7.7 announced in Berlin(0)
Yesterday’s Samsung Unpacked Event at Berlin introduced various new devices from Samsung equipped with the cutting edge technology. The main focus of the event, however, remained only two devices: Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 and Samsung Galaxy Note. Samsung was certainly aware of this and may be that’s why these two devices were kept for the end.
The ceremony started with Boo-Keun Yoon with the introduction of smart TVs from Samsung showcasing 3D content. YouTube would exclusively be streaming its 3D content for these TVs which is quite a news. The customers of these products would also be able to benefit from the thousands of applications present in Samsung TV App Store. These applications are increasing at the rate of 10 apps per day. This certainly is quite impressive.
Moving forward, we saw the glimpse of Samsung Multiview Envy 800 and Michael Andre was the man who introduced it. This is the latest digital camera from Samsung which would contain some interesting features such as 16.1 mega pixels, 5X optical zoom lens and 26 mm wide angle lens. Although with these products, we also saw NX200 which seems to be even more impressive than the previous product, with its features like 20.3 MP sensor, video capturing at 7 fps and iFuntion 2.0.
Samsung Wave 3.0 was also introduced which would be running Bada 2.0 as OS. Other than the 4 inch super AMOLED screen, technical specifications of the device do not seem to be much impressive. It will be probably sold through mobile networks but I’m sure you will find soon a solution to unlock Wave 3.But soon after this device the main product of the evening, Galaxy Tab 7.7, was introduced, it certainly had something new and exciting to offer. The technical specifications of Galaxy Tab 7.7 that would distinguish it from other tablets are the maximum pixel density (that is, 196 ppi) on any tablet so far and it also has the honor to be the thinnest tablet device so far. Pretty impressive, isn’t it? Other technical specifications are quite similar to Galaxy Tab 10.1 version. We were not told about the price of Galaxy Tab 7.7 but it’s pretty clear that the device would be released within the next few months. So if you want to buy Galaxy Tab 7.7, just wait for a couple or so months.
Now comes the turn of Galaxy Note which is a perfect amalgamation of a smartphone and a tablet device. This tablet PC/ phone would come with a 5.3 inch screen, virtually unmatched in the smartphones race. Basically, Samsung aims at providing the features of tablet device, smartphone as well as notepad in a single device and here it is. Other technical specifications of Galaxy Note include super AMOLED screen, Android OS and access to Samsung’s messaging service, Chat On. Once again, the Galaxy Note price and release date of Galaxy Note was not revealed so just keep your fingers crossed, we will let you know when you can buy Galaxy Note.

Apple doesn’t unveil iPad 3 at WWDC(1)
It’s a joke of course. The title is an interpretation out of the context of Apple’s announcement yesterday regarding their focus on Mac OS and iOS at its Worldwide Developers Conference this year. There were rumors saying that Apple will unveil the new iPhone 5 or iPad 3. The last statement doesn’t make sense since we have just been introduced to iPad 2 , fresh launched in Europe, Australia, Canada and New Zealand last week. With a tough competition on the tablet market, it is likely to see iPad 3 a little sooner than expected, perhaps end of this year but a new iPad unveiled this month is nothing but a joke.
So far, on every edition of WWDC, Aplle unveiled a hardware device. If we can set a pattern out of this, Apple’s competition could also anticipate the release dates for iPad ,iPhone or any other Apple device.
We have to wait until June 6th to see if Apple brings us a piece of hardware in San Francisco or will only show us what’s new on its operating software.
