HP has made an impressive entry in the market of tablet PC with its first tablet PC with the name of HP touchpad. In this review, we would make a short comparison of this device with Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 which has already been an established and highly successful device in the tablets market. First of all, the body structure of two devices as well as weight varies to some extent. Galaxy Tab 10.1 has dimensions of 256.7 x 175.3 x 8.6mm and contains a weight of mere 565g. On the other hand, the dimensions for HP Touchpad are 240 x 190 x 13.7mm and it is slightly heavier as compared to the former and weighs some 740g. Galaxy Tab 10.1, on the other hand, contains a display of 10.1-inch PLS TFT capacitive touchscreen, that is, slightly larger than the former. Besides, its resolution is also a bit higher compared to the Touchpad, that is, 800 x 1280 pixels.

Now let’s take a look at the storage capabilities of the two devices. HP Touchpad comes with either 16GB or 32 GB internal storage capabilities and a 1GB RAM with both versions. But the problem that users would face is that it does not have any card slot for external storage, which is certainly a negative point. Galaxy Tab is also pretty much same in this regard and also does not have any card slot. But the only edge it has over its competitor is that it is also available in a 64GB version. So from the perspective of storage, Galaxy Tab once again has an upper hand.

The processors of HP Touchpad and Galaxy 10.1 seem to have almost same kind of specifications. Touchpad has a processor of 1.2 GHz running on the APQ8060 Snapdragon chipset. Galaxy Tab also has a dual core processor but has a slightly lower clock speed compared to touchpad. So basically, when considered from the perspective of efficient capacitors, both devices seem to be on equal par.

It’s difficult to compare both devices form the perspective of operating system since they run different operating systems. Touchpad runs Web OS 3.0 while Galaxy Tab runs Android 3.0 Honeycom. Both operating systems have pretty impressive multi tasking capabilities and beautiful interface. Other than being user friendly, they also give users control over the applications so both seem to be quite attractive for the users.

Finally, Galaxy Tab has an edge over touchpad when we consider their cameras. Galaxy tab has 3.15 MP camera with 2048×1536 pixels resolution while touchpad comes with only 1.3 MP camera with 1280 x 1024 resolution.

So overall, Galaxy Tab 10.1 clearly has an edge over HP touchpad which needs some more improvements to exert an impressive influence in the market.

So let us score the round-up. The HP TouchPad has 400 applications, Apple iPad hits market with 100,000 record breaking applications, while the five Google Android Honeycomb which were out since April only have 232.
So what about this? Well, it simply shows that HP TouchPad has more application than Android. Why is this so? The 232 round up for Android is actually publicized by David Pogue in New York Times, and the reason why it lives until today is because Google refuses to reveal the right number. Hence, TouchPad having no rear-facing camera at all, with WebOS still stands stalwart with apps, browser windows, videos, photos, and more which can also be minimized to “card” size with a downward swipe or a tap on the Home button. Kerris even assured that the company will expand WebOS coverage to more devices while there is hundreds more application coming over. HP had been inviting companies for workshops and seminars recently to pursue the plan.
As of today, HP TouchPad price varies in different versions such that the 16GB is set at $499 and the 32GB is $599. HP also says that the tablet will be available at AT&T; however, the connectivity and timing is yet to be announced sooner.

Apple’s iPad2 can be considered the market leader when it comes to Tablet PCs. However, the competition is not entirely dry and there are other similar products which can challenge the monopoly of iPad2 in near future. Some of the noteworthy rivals of iPad2 are as follows:
